Obituary of Madge Woods

Elizabeth Madge Thackston Woods, 86, widow of Wayne Charles Woods, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Mrs. Woods was born in Fountain Inn to the late William Pinkney Thackston and Elizabeth Jane Leopard Thackston.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and retired from Her Majesty.  Madge loved working in the garden and preparing meals for her family on Sundays, especially her famous fried chicken.  She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening and birdwatching.  Madge was a collector of Lennox Christmas Plates and Christmas China.  One of her greatest joys was being Grandma to her granddaughters.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen Cabaniss; a brother, Alvin Thackston with wife Myra; a sister, Blanche Taylor with husband David; four granddaughters, Haley Cabaniss, Taylor Cabaniss, Sadie Cabaniss and Katherine O’Shields; and two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Coleman and Autumn Coleman.  She was predeceased by a son, Randy Woods; four brothers, Lawrence Thackston, Avery Thackston, Fred Thackston, and Haskell Thackston; and two sisters, Hazel Smith and Bertha Ferguson. 

Funeral services will be 11 o’clock Saturday in the mausoleum chapel at Cannon Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jim Spencer.
