Obituary of Lenora Childress

Lenora Jo Scales Childress, 89, widow of James Edward “Ed” Childress, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

 

Mrs. Childress was born in Union to the late Lonnie Cleveland Scales and Nettie Palmer Scales.  She was a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church and the Vital Faith Sunday School Class.  Lenora retired from the Greenville County School District after serving the cafeteria at East Gantt Elementary School and Bethel Elementary School.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed ceramics.  Lenora was a gentle spirit and a friend to everybody. 

 

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Terry and Tina Childress, and Scott and Lavonda Childress; nine grandchildren, Justin Childress with wife Ashley, Matt Childress with wife Kim, Leah Childress, Shawn Fowler, Christine Childress, Will Childress, Hannah Rosas with husband Kevin, Kaylee Forbes with husband Jordan, and Addie Childress; and ten great-grandchildren, Wesley, Alainia, Miller Kate, Gavin, Jackson, Nolan, Ava, Everly, Braxton and Ahlana.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Dempsey; six brothers, Ray Scales, Harold Scales, Odis Scales, Guy Scales, J.V. Scales and Otis Scales; and three sisters, Eloise Johnson, Beulah Ochiltree and Mary Gaffney. 

 

A Celebration of Lenora’s Life will be 11 o’clock Friday at Mauldin First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Wade Leonard.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Burial will be at 1 o’clock at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
