Obituary of George Opalak

George Michael Opalak, 86, husband of Delcie Adelia Young Opalak for 31 years, went to be with the Lord on this day, April 29, 2024.

 

Mr. Opalak was born in Detroit, MI to the late George Opalak and Anna Marie Shakas Opalak.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Gideons International.  George was passionate about sharing the gospel with others and dedicated many hours to the Gideon Ministry.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving as a jet engine mechanic. He began flying commercially in 1977 and flew for Mid Island Air Service, Long Island, New York, Zantop International Airlines, Ypsilanti, MI, C & M Airways, Inc., El Paso, TX and retired as a Captain with Zantop International Airlines in 1998.  George enjoyed a lifelong love of flying and skydiving.

 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Jimmy Opalak, a daughter, Jeanne Opalak Wood and Jerry Randolph (wife Lisa), David Randolph (wife Rhonda), and Melanie Morgan; ten grandchildren, Brandon Morgan, Eric Morgan (Cori), Taylor Randolph, Nicole Randolph, Elaine Barnett (Tony), David W. Randolph (Asia), Brittany Owens (Cody), David M. Wood (Randi), Jacqueline Wood and James Wood; and eleven great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brother, Jim Opalak.

 

A Celebration of George’s Life will be 11 o’clock Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

 

Burial, with military honors, will be 11 o’clock Thursday (May 9th) at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, MI.
