Obituary of Joanne Wiant

Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joanne Kemper Wiant, age 93, passed away on September 2, 2024, in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, where she lived and was lovingly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Christine Wiant.

Joanne was born in 1931 in Camden, West Virginia to Opal and Hugh Kemper.  Growing up, she often stayed with her beloved Aunt Lucy Kemper Douglas of Camden.  She graduated from Weston High School in 1949 and later from WV Business College in Clarksburg.

On August 9, 1952, Joanne married Glen Wiant, Jr. of Burnsville, West Virginia and began a family.  In 1972, they moved from Charlton Heights, West Virginia to Youngstown (Boardman), Ohio where Glen Jr. managed the Greif Brothers Corporation plant, and they lived and worked near other friends and family from West Virginia.  Glen passed away in 1976.  Joanne returned to West Virginia in 1983 and, after spending a couple of years helping with grandkids in South Carolina, eventually settled again in Camden, WV near family and dear old and new friends.

Joanne was a devoted homemaker and a gifted seamstress.  She enjoyed being outside working in her yard and soaking up the warm sun.  She was a woman of faith and her church in Camden always remained dear to her.  Family and friends will remember her generosity and welcoming home, always offering a meal, something sweet to eat, and a cup of coffee.  They will hold onto her memory through quilts she lovingly made for them over the years.

Joanne is survived by her children, Ed and his wife, Christine, of South Carolina, Ken and his wife, Lee, of Tennessee, Sidney and his wife Louanne of Georgia, and Rosemary of New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Ken Jr. (Jennifer), Don (Candace), Matthew, Adam (Kaylyn), Julia (DJ), and Michael (Scotti); eight great-grandchildren; her brother James Kemper of Camden, WV, sister, Justine Rogers, of Arnoldsburg, WV, and sister-in-law, Joan Wiant Fields of Lakeland, FL; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, Glen Jr., she was predeceased by her brother Bill Kemper of Camden.

A Celebration of Joanne's Life will be 2 o'clock Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Service.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A memorial service will also be held in West Virginia on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Camden United Methodist Church, 4249 US-33, Camden WV 26338.

Memorials can be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 W Georgia Rd Simpsonville, SC 29680
