Obituary of Doris Dalton

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Doris Patterson Dalton, affectionately known as DD, was born on May 29, 1929 to the late James Patterson and Eva Patterson near Corinth Mississippi, and passed away on September 19, 2024, in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Walter (Salty) Dalton, her son, Stephen Dalton(Lynn) and her friend and companion, L.S. Green. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Stec (Randy), grandson’s Dalton (Vanessa), Adam, and Christopher and step grandchildren Kristin Thibodeaux (Christian) and Brian Stec (Andrea) and 12 great grandchildren.

Professionally, Doris served as a lab technician in the Cardiac Cath lab at the VA hospital, where she was respected for her dedication and skill. She often shared her favorite life motto, "If you rest, you rust," which served as both advice to others and a guiding principle for her own life. Throughout her life, Doris was passionate about quilting, gardening, and traveling. She enjoyed moments spent at the beach but later found joy in the tranquility of the mountains . In her later years, she enjoyed watching old reruns of "Gunsmoke," having seen every episode multiple times.

Doris was actively involved in her church communities, having worshiped at Colonial Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee, Senatobia Methodist Church in Senatobia, Mississippi, and Mauldin Methodist Church. Her faith and connection to her church family were central to her life as a Christian Doris's family was her proudest accomplishment, and her greatest joy came from being a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be lovingly remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who knew her.

A memorial service will take place Tuesday, October 8, 2024 with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM and service at 2:00 PM at Mauldin Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bon Secours Hospice by Compassus, 212 E Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, SC 29340.
