Gopher Hughes Obituary

“Gopher” James Michael Hughes, 65, of the Youngs Community, husband of Cindy Lynn Lowe Hughes for 43 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2024.


Gopher was born in Fountain Inn to the late Ernest Hughes and Zadie Norine Beck Hughes. He was a truck driver and a very hardworking man. He enjoyed gathering family together and barbequing. Gopher loved his family and enjoyed being “Papa Go” to his grandchildren.


Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Zachary Hughes and Carey Hughes (Amber); a daughter, Angel Hughes; one brother, Sammy Hughes; two sisters, Martha Brown (Keith), Caroline Carlton (Rusty); two sister-in-laws, Linda Hughes and Sandra Hughes; eight grandchildren, Rayne Mitchell, Makayla Hughes, Addison Hughes, Abbigail Hughes, Penelope Simpson, Thomas Simpson, Hunter Simpson, and Trenton Simpson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold Hughes, Donnie Hughes and Haskell Hughes; and a sister-in-law, Rhonda Hughes.




A Celebration of Gopher’s Life will be held 6pm Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service in Woodruff. The family will receive friends an hour prior.
