John Erwin Starnes, 80, husband of Betty Ruth Browning Starnes for 57 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Mr. Starnes was born in Asheville, NC, to the late Alfred Lewis Starnes and Ruth Arthur Starnes. He was a resident of the Cashville community and a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as deacon and treasurer. John retired after flying for over 30 years as a corporate pilot for Fluor-Daniel and Stevens Aviation. He was a veteran of the US Navy and also served many years as a volunteer fireman for Reidville Fire Department. John enjoyed singing in the church choir, working on cars and flying radio-controlled airplanes.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Chris Starnes with wife Donna; a daughter, Rachel Acton with husband Rev. Hugh; a sister, Dorcas Epley; and seven grandchildren, Arthur Acton with wife Mercy, Caleb Starnes, Julia Starnes, Eleanor Acton, Philip Starnes, Jane Acton and Alfred Acton. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry Starnes and Steve Starnes.

A celebration of John’s life, with military honors, will begin at 1 o’clock Saturday at Fulton Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private in the church cemetery.
