Alvin “Penn” Shell, 71, husband of Lisa Sullivan Shell died peacefully at home on Monday, December 2, 2024. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Perry Shell, his late biological mother, Lena Thomason, and his late adoptive mother, Laura Mae Shell.
Penn enjoyed yardwork, working on his mower, collecting model cars, and spending time with his family and friends. Everyone that knew him has at least one story to tell about him. He loved to make people laugh and stayed the center of attention.
In addition to his wife, Lisa, Penn is survived by a son, Calvin Shell; three daughters, Tisa Johnson (Garry), Marlishia Shell, and Monisa Shell; six grandchildren, Tania Johnson, Malik Johnson, Sean Johnson, Tamia Johnson, Kaden Shell, and William Sullivan; three brothers, Eugene Thomason (Vanessa), David Griffin, and Michael Thomason; and four sisters, Irene Griffin, Cynthia Sligh (John), Willie Ruth Thomason, and Melissa Griffin. In addition to his parents, Penn was preceded in death by four siblings, James Edward Thomason, Howard Griffin, Albert Shell, and Christine Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Service in Fountain Inn. The funeral home will remain open until 7:00 pm for those wishing to pay their respects. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Fletcher Funeral Service on Friday, December 6, 2024 beginning at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Blvd. Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209.
