Obituary of Doug Zimmerle

Doug Zimmerle passed away peacefully at the age of 56, Sunday December 1, 2024, at his home in Simpsonville, SC surrounded by family after battling chronic illnesses.

 Doug was born in Ft Walton, Florida, lived many years in Houston, TX, Gilbert, AZ, and finally Simpsonville, SC where he moved to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.

 Doug is survived by his loving wife Anita, daughter Danielle and fiancé Brien, grandchildren Hunter, Lexz, and Teleri, mother Donna, father Colin and step mother Barbara, brother Jeff and sister-in-law Mary, step-brothers Nick and John, aunt Joyce, caregiver Debbie, and multiple cousins and close friends. He is preceded in death by his step father Dan.

 He loved his family, adored his daughter and was proud to be called “Dado”. Doug was passionate about music and lived his life to the fullest. For those who knew him, he always was bigger than life, entered a room and instantly made it seem small, and never met a stranger. He was known as a great friend to many, supportive in any way possible. He loved being the center of attention but also loved time at home or traveling with his wife. He was an accomplished drummer and enjoyed playing and listening to music until the end. He was also an accomplished carpenter, and in his retirement, greatly enjoyed woodworking under the name Doug’s Custom Woodworking, making cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and bowls from his woodshop at home.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held Saturday December 7, 2024 at Shortfield’s Restaurant in Simpsonville (drop-in) from 1pm-5pm.
