Obituary of Dr. Maynard William Bland

Dr. Maynard William Bland, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Dr. Bland was born in Gaffney to the late Avery William “Bill” Bland and Daisy Lee Jones Bland.  He was an alumnus of Furman University and the Medical University of South Carolina.  He was a member of Gaffney First Baptist Church and the Sons of The Confederacy.  Dr. Bland served Fountain Inn and the surrounding communities for many years in his family practice.  He was an avid hunter, traveler, and golfer.  He was also passionate about history, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are a son, M.W. “Bo” Bland II; three daughters, Deanna Bland Hiott and husband Steve, Allison Bland Dobson and husband Brian, and Jordon Bland; brother, Edward Bland and wife Ruth; sister, B.J. Brannon and husband Chip; eight grandchildren, Wesley Celeste Hiott-Ivins, Carrie Hiott Richmond and husband Jordan, Steven Hiott IV, Nathan Hiott, Ian Hiott, and CeJay Martha-Helen Hiott; and six great-grandchildren, Wyatt Richmond, Emme Kate Richmond, Alexa Moyer Brown, Davey Moyer, Noah Hiott-Ivins, and Faith Hiott-Ivins.  He was predeceased by a son, Braden Bland; and two sisters, Imogene Austell and Miriam Phillips.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Fountain Inn First Baptist Church, officiated by Dr.  David Blizzard.  The family will receive friends at the church for 2 hours prior to the service.  Burial will be at Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaffney.
