Obituary of Walter John Wasilewski
Walter John Wasilewski, age 93, passed away on October 8, 2017, at his home in Greenville, South Carolina, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, on March 29, 1924, he was the son of the late John and Rose Wasilewski. Born and raised in the grocery business, he owned and operated Wasilewski’s Market on Sheep Hill until retiring in 1998.
A WWII veteran, he was in the 379th Infantry Regiment in the 95th Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. He was drafted in 1942, discharged in 1945, and was a Staff Sergeant.
He is survived by wife Jane of 69 years, children Kenneth and wife Sherri of Houston, Texas; Cathy Ann Kielar of St. Petersburg, Florida; Bill and wife Denise of Greenville, South Carolina; and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Prior to moving to Greenville, he was a member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church and was a member of Holy Cross Episcopalian Church of Simpsonville, South Carolina.
At his request, no memorial service will be held. In his memory the family suggests donations be made to the American Legion, Post 214 and Military Museum: 3110 Wade Hampton Blvd, Taylors, South Carolina, 29687, Attn: Adjutant.
