Obituary of Joyce Ann Densmore Powers
Joyce Ann Densmore Powers began life in Gardendale, Alabama. Her family relocated to Columbus, Mississippi in her early childhood. She enjoyed a simple country lifestyle that included plenty of extended family close-by. In her married years, she was the mother of four, a homemaker and part of a military family who traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska and abroad to Okinawa, Japan. After retirement, she lived in Honaker, VA for several years but eventually settled in Fountain Inn, SC with her son, Michael and his wife Tabitha.
She found contentment and plenty of new friends with her Durbin Creek Church family. She enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with projects, attending services and spending time with her friends. A big part of her life were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Evenings, she could be found on the phone, catching up and making sure everyone was doing okay. It was her nature to assure us that things would turn out for the best and we knew she had faith in us. It doesn't get any better than that. Joyce will be remembered most for her sweet, caring spirit, her loving disposition and her dedication to her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Bryan, Michael Metcalf (Tabitha), and Debbie Mears (Rick); grandchildren, James Ryan Copeland, Robert Adam Copeland, Jessice
Faye Copeland, Cory Metcalf, Brandon Metcalf, Krystal Mears, and Leora Metcalf; as well as six great-grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Gus Russell Densmore;
her mother, Daisy Shelton Densmore; husbands, James Stuart Dragon and
Jack Powers; and a son, Robert Keith Metcalf.
The memorial service for Mrs. Powers will be held at 1 o’clock on Saturday, April 7th, at Durbin Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
