Obituary of William Gary Benner

William “Gary” Benner, 62, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

 

Gary was born in Asheboro, NC to Lloyd A. and Aleta Kirby Benner.  He was an alumnus of the University of South Carolina Upstate and a former member of MENSA International.  He was a member of Brookwood Church and the Men’s Holy Smokers. Gary loved to serve others and used his cooking talents to help feed the homeless.  He also served in the church Coffee Station. He was a huge Clemson fan.

 

Along with being a school teacher in his early career, Gary was an accomplish CAD Designer.

 

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Tyler Benner; a brother, David Benner and wife Allison; and three nieces, Kirby Benner, Judy Benner, and Lucy Benner.

 

A Celebration Service of Gary’s Life will be 1 p.m. Friday at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, followed by burial in Cannon Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at Brookwood prior to the service between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Greenville Free Medical Clinic, Attn:  Susan Foley, P.O. Box 8993, Greenville, SC 29604.
