Obituary of Jimmy Curry

Please share a memory of Jimmy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jimmy L. Curry, 76, husband of Ann Thompson Curry, of Fountain Inn, passed away after an extended illness on October 14, 2016. He was at home surrounded by his adoring family and loving caregivers. Born in Gray Court SC, on January 19, 1940, he was the son of the late John and Clara Mae Jones Curry. He was proud of that birthdate because he shared it with the American general, Robert E. Lee, and country music artist, Dolly Parton. Mr. Curry was the proud founder, owner and President of The Tool Room Inc. for over 40 years. He poured his life into the company—working 12 to 16 hours a day in the early years. Those who knew him recognized that he worked hard, played hard and loved hard. His bigger than life personality was known by many. His laugh was loud and contagious. He loved being the center of attention and was most content either at home, surrounded by his family or riding around town in his red truck. Above and beyond his business aspirations, his family was the apple of his eye. He loved them dearly and was a fierce protector of their welfare. As a member of both Harmony Baptist Church (in his youth) and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years, he loved the Lord and loved people. As he had to give, he gave to others—always lending a hand. Surviving, in addition to his devoted wife are four children, Leigh Owens (Duane), Allyson Curry, Jimmy L. “Bo” Curry Jr. (Leslie) and Luke Curry; four grandchildren, Hannah Owens, Curry Owens, Houston Curry and Hartlee Curry; and a sister Joan Curry Owings (Bill). He is also survived by very special family members, nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Mr. Curry leaves behind many, many great friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn Webb Curry; daughter, Lorraine Ashley (Lori) Curry; and brother John “Buddy” Curry. The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (1279 S. Frontage Rd. Fountain Inn) on Saturday, October 15, 6-8pm. A celebration of life ceremony will be held also at the church on Sunday, October 16, at 3pm. Burial will follow at Harmony Baptist Church cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Philip K. Whitt. Special thanks to the Pruitt Health and Hospice Group for all their care and support. And a very special thanks to his team of loving and dedicated caregivers. The family will be forever grateful for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a scholarship fund in memory of Mr. Curry to benefit students in the CNC/Manufacturing Program at GreenvilleTechnical College. Donations may be sent to: Jimmy L. Curry Scholarship Fund, c/o GrandSouth Bank, PO Box 1239, Fountain Inn SC, 29644.
