Iris Elizabeth Clayton Tolbert, 80, wife of Thomas “Tom” Hartwell Tolbert for 60 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.
Mrs. Tolbert was born in Greenville to the late Alvin H. Clayton and Mary Loree Plumley Clayton. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing at the nursing home. In 2009, Iris received special recognition for unselfish ministry to Briarwoods Nursing Center. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a brother, Milford Clayton and wife Helen of Greer; a sister, Julia Craig and husband Bill of Laurens; a sister in-law, Dotsy Clayton of Hickory Tavern; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd Clayton and Harold Clayton; and three sisters, Loraine Christ, Pat Howard, and Juanita Cook.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday at Fletcher Funeral Service, officiated by Dr. Nick McClellan. Family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service.
