Obituary of John Lenard Hedden

John Lenard Hedden, 78, husband of Edna Mae Brendle Hedden for 58 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2020. Mr. Hedden was born in Bryson City, NC to the late John Hedden and Bonnie Ledford Hedden. He was an alumnus of Hampton University and Western Carolina College and retired after 32 years of teaching school. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and had been a long-time member of Buckroe Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. John enjoyed fishing, woodworking, NASCAR, and helping people. He served as a volunteer for the Far West Affordable Housing for many years. He loved serving others through church activities. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, church bus driver and on the Benevolence Committee. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Mike Hedden; a daughter, Michele Wright and husband Roger; four grandsons, Samuel Hedden and wife Amber, Alex Hedden, Brenden Wright and fiancé Amelia Godolphin, and Noah Wright; and three great-grandchildren, A.J., Sammy and Lailynn. He was predeceased by two brothers, Monroe Hedden and Ray Hedden. Graveside services will be 11 o’clock Tuesday at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
