I thought of you too much today. I was thinking about that 5 layer chocolate cake I made for your birthday and how you nearly ate the whole thing yourself! And about how you were such a great dad to Allie, Pauly and Nicole. You were so humble. I didn’t deserve you.

My sincere condolences to the Effenberger family. I read of Paul's passing on Facebook and was devastated to say the least. I had not seen Paul in a very long time but knowing him like I did, I thought of him from time to time and always assumed and hoped he was well. I met Paul at Bloomfield High when we both were on the Track team and together we shared a love of sports, the Jersey shore and laughing. My memories of him can fill this space ten times over, all good. To his children, please take comfort in knowing your Dad was a terrific guy with a tough exterior. He was an outstanding athlete who never failed at any sport he participated in. I can remember sitting in the bleachers at Foley Field or indoors at a wrestling match hearing other spectators comment on his talent, obviously unaware I was there for him and when I would share what I heard with him, he would shrug it off and say "oh stop it". Vain he was not.
Heaven has truly gained an Angel, and his name is Paul.

Fond memories growing up with the Effenberger family on Highview Terrace. Labor Day block parties, kick the can, basketball at Tuers Park, sleigh riding in the woods. Our neighbors were our extended family. Pauli was a special part of it, bigger than life but a tender heart. You will be missed and fondly remembered. Peace!

You always knew when Paul was in the room. Always larger than life and looking to share a laugh. I remember the fun times on Highview Terrace growing up with Paul and the gang – playing softball in the street, sledding in the woods by the WPAT building, carpooling with the Effenbergers to St. Thomas. He’d punish you physically on the playing field and then make you laugh afterwards. Thanks for the good times.

Paulie was a great person , we knew him from working with him at masco. Always had our back! And always real with us! Brought us lunch , waters and asked about how our lives was and gave advice. And jumped right in to help with a job. Whenever I called him he thought I was his daughter Nicole and would get excited she was in town. Lol I would let him have his moment and then be like hey Paulie , I need more insulation lol. And we would laugh. So many great memories we all have of him. Prayers and thoughts to his family. He will missed and not forgotten! Nicki & Kenny

"Berger" was one of the tri-captains of our BHS wrestling team. He was my usual wrestling training partner, which made practice a daily challenge, but made Friday matches seem easy with people my own size. Berger was big and tough and notorious on the mat. However he was a big fun pussycat, always ready with a laugh, and a genuine smile.

Big brother Pauli, most handsome, star football player and wrestler, a real ladies man. A hottie with all the moves, man he could dance. Equivalent to John Travolta... get the picture? No one messed with the Effenbergers, or Paul would kick some butt! Truth be told he was a gentle giant, heart of gold, selfless. Always doing what he could for others. Never a complaint always smiling. And a great listener too. He was mom and dads favorite, Paul was always special and easy to love. I know he is with mommy, daddy and brother Edmund, all who are now at peace and yet forever with us too, walking with us through our journey of sorrows and joys. We will miss you Paul, with all my love, Chrissy also known as Mary Christine

Paul was my first and only friend in SC. He welcomed me with open arms to the family. He was always willing to help me in any way he could, as would I for him. The pleasure of seeing Paul everyday made going to work everyday more bearable, I could always count on him to put a smile on my face and bring joy to an otherwise difficult day. My wife and I love Paul w all our hearts and he will be dearly missed, but live in our hearts forever. RIP big guy, we miss u already

Even though we haven't seen Paul in years, this news breaks our hearts. We've tried to get in touch with him for the last few yrs but unsuccessful. Paul really made everyone around him laugh. His goofy personality will never be forgotten. He's lended our family many memories that won't be forgotten. We will cherish them. May he rest in the sweetest peace. Our sincere condolences to everyone. May you all find peace in your memories of Paul. God speed
