Obituary of Lewis Edward McDonald

Lewis Edward McDonald, 80, husband of Lynda Mayfield McDonald for 60 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020. Mr. McDonald was born January 4th, 1940, in Greenville to the late Edward J. McDonald and Beulah Hunter McDonald. At the age of two, his family moved to a farm in Simpsonville, SC where he lived until going to Wofford College. He transferred during his sophomore year to the Medical University of South Carolina to study Pharmacy. Upon graduation in 1963, he, along with Eddie Howard, bought Howard's Pharmacy in Simpsonville where he worked for the next 43 years. He was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church where he was baptized in 1950, then Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, and most recently Cross Roads Baptist Church in Simpsonville, where he taught Sunday School, served as Deacon, Trustee and other offices as long as he was able. Lewis was an avid golfer for many years and a member of the senior’s group at Links of Tryon. Lewis was much loved as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are Son Gregory Edward McDonald, wife Janet and their children Meredith G. Boley, husband Josh and their children Emmett and Hazel Grace Boley, Samuel E. McDonald, wife Sarah and their daughter Hadley. Son Brian Milford McDonald, wife Donna and their daughters Caroline R McDonald and Kathryn M. Boland and her husband Luke. Daughter Melanie M. Coates-Hunt, her husband Jeff Hunt and their children; Meghan C. DeBruhl, husband Keller and son Beckett; Caleb L. Coates and Corbin G. Coates; Madison H. Stroud, husband Brad and his daughter Caylee and Maxwell L. Hunt. Son Kirkland Lewis McDonald. Son Evan Mayfield McDonald. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Milford and Clemis Mayfield; a son-in-law, Gregory L. Coates and a grandson, Addison E. McDonald. The family will receive friends 2-3pm Thursday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, 705 Anderson Ridge Road, Greer, S.C. 29651. Funeral services will follow, 3pm Thursday, at Cross Roads Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jack Eason, Rev. Joey Estes and Rev. Heath Carruth. Burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park. Memorial may be made to: Cross Roads Baptist Church – Missions fund.
