Walter Nivens Jr., 65, husband of Marguerite Joy Gilmore Nivens for 35 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Mr. Nivens was born in Winston-Salem, NC to Louise Tyler Nivens and the late Walter Nivens Sr. He was an alumnus of A&T State University and retired from First Choice by Select Health. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended Simpsonville Church of God. Walter was a huge fan of sports, including basketball, swimming, and football. He was a huge fan of the Indianapolis Colts and a collector of sports cards. He loved music of all kinds and enjoyed dancing. He was an avid reader and a “natural-health enthusiast.” Walter was a “Mr. Fix-it” and always had a purpose for everything he did. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sons, Gerrard Nivens and Bryan Nivens; three brothers, Greg Nivens, Ed Nivens, and Melvin Nivens and companion Glissette Massas; two sisters, Wanda Fletcher and Andrea Nivens; and a grand-dog, Jack. The family will receive friends beginning at 3 o’clock Saturday at the family’s home, 819 McKinney Road in Simpsonville. A Celebration of Walter’s Life will begin at 4 o’clock Saturday at the home.
