Obituary of Ada Sylvia Powell

Ada “Sylvia” Powell, 83, wife to J.R. “Jim” Powell for 38 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Mrs. Powell was born in Fountain Inn to the late George Douglas “Doug” Tumblin and Ila Gault Tumblin. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service. Sylvia enjoyed shopping, visiting with her sister and volunteering for the AWANA program at Clear Spring Baptist Church. She loved her boys and her family unconditionally. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Kee Ballew and wife Sandra, and Jeff Ballew with wife Wanda; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Scott Ballew; a brother, Tommy Tumblin; and a sister, Betty Warren. Funeral services will be held 12pm Saturday at Clear Spring Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Billy Blakely and Rev. David Shiflet. Visitation will be held an hour prior. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tiffany Jennings and the staff at Amedisys Home Healthcare for the love and care given to Sylvia.
