Obituary of Barbara Louise Hemminger Hoyt

Barbara Louise Hemminger Hoyt, 90, of Simpsonville, SC went home to be with her Lord on December 6, 2016 with family present at her death. She was born on April 27, 1926 in Painesville, OH, to the late Harry and Lila Hemminger. The Cleveland area was home to her. After graduating high school, she worked for the US Army until she left to attend Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY. While at seminary, she met and married Lauren W. Hoyt (August 5, 1948). Together they lived in Tennessee, upstate New York and Michigan, raising three children and remaining actively involved and serving in their respective churches, most notably First Baptist Church of St. Clair. She worked in numerous secretarial/administrative assistant positions at River District Hospital and St. Clair County Community College where she was promoted to Director of Financial Aid. She retired in May of 1985, and continued to consult higher education offices throughout the state of Michigan. Upon Lauren’s retirement, they committed themselves to a two-year mission to Brazil, serving in international schools in Manaus, along the Amazon River and Sao Paulo. Returning to the US, they traveled the country and eventually settled in Simpsonville, SC where they remained faithfully active for many years in their church, Holly Ridge Baptist. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lauren; her sister, Phyllis Malott; and great granddaughter, McKenna Hoyt. She is survived by her three children - Lila (Dwight) Spotts of Spokane, WA; Douglas (Marlene) Hoyt of DeWitt, MI; and Carolyn (Jim) Perry of Simpsonville, SC; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Ruth Roesler. Her beloved dog, Jiminy, now resides in Simpsonville, SC. A private family service and burial is being planned for Wednesday, December 14 in Simpsonville, SC.
