Obituary of Curtis Burton

Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MSG Curtis Joseph Burton, USAF Retired, 92, husband of the late Beulah Naomi Harrison Burton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Mr. Burton was born in Greenville to the late Marion Jacob Burton and Bessie Lee Ward Burton. As a “youngin” growing up in Greenville County, he attended Laurel Creek School and then joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, serving during WWII. He retired after 23 years in the US Air Force, serving in both the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, he worked at and retired from General Electric. A gifted artist, Curtis loved painting in the Old Masters Technique and wood carving. He enjoyed participating in local arts programs and won many awards for his artistry. He was a world traveler and an avid gardener who couldn’t get the seeds in the ground soon enough (ever hoping to get a head start)! He loved animals and took in more than one baby squirrel and his beloved “Pup” found in a drainage ditch and turning out to be the world’s greatest dog. He loved music as well as telling stories with a twist of his unique sense of humor. He loved the country life and simple things like his homemade peach ice-cream. Surviving are two daughters, Sherri James and husband Tommy, and Tess Burton; a son, Brian Burton; three sisters, Corrine Keeler, Miriam “Jitter” Thomas, and Elnora Burton; five grandchildren, Jessica Burton, Chris George, Amanda Burton, Cody George, and Adrienne Burton; and three great-grandchildren, Kyler Burton, Zoey George, and Luxana Vanderfort. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mamie Vaughn, Lucy Gilstrap, and Grace Littlefield. Graveside services will be 1 o’clock Tuesday at Greenville Memorial Gardens, officiated by Steve and Beth Ramey. Memorials may be made to the Washington Center School, 2 Betty Spencer Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. Fletcher Funeral Service
