Obituary of James William Blackwell

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James William “Bill” Blackwell, a beloved husband and devoted dad, died on February 15 at his home. A man who could see humor and good in everything, he was a stranger to no one. Quick with a joke or to lend a helping hand, he left a mark on everyone he met. He was a larger than life man who lit up any room he walked in. After 42 years of marriage, he learned to like most things his wife did including flowers, gardening and the South Carolina Gamecocks. You’d often find him at home, watching the birds in the backyard, reading a good book or sitting the recliner watching a movie, usually while enjoying a bourbon and coke. He is survived by his wife, Jan, his son Andy, and his daughters Jennifer and Jamie. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Nicole and sons-in-law Lijah and Daniel, two sisters, Laurel and June and two brothers, Lewis and Bobby. His heart and home extended to so many friends. His impact on his children’s friends (known as Dad to so many) who he treated and thought of as his own was immeasurable. A memorial service will be held at Hopewell UMC on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2pm. The service will be streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
