Obituary of Allen Dempsey "Sonny" Cumbie

“Sonny” Allen Dempsey Cumbie, 84, husband of 60 years to Lois Cooper Cumbie, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Mr. Cumbie was born in Williamsburg County to the late George Handford Cumbie and Bernice Poston Cumbie. He was a National Guard veteran and member of Mauldin Church of God. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and loved farm animals. His greatest enjoyment was being “Papa” to his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Allen “Dempsey” Cumbie, Jr. and wife Kim and Russell Lee Cumbie and wife Brandy; one daughter, Stephanie Cumbie Powell with Eddie Lovinggood; one brother, Phillip Cumbie; four sisters, Inez McGee, Freda Wilson, Mary Thomas, and Dally Ward; twelve grandchildren, William Bradley Taylor, Alfis “Al” Brooks Powell II and wife Kristie, Miranda Nicole Postulka and husband Andrew, Dakota Cumbie Akhmedov with Travis Galloway, Jacob Allen Cumbie with Bailey Graves, Hannah Denise Cumbie with Matt Heil, Emma Deal, Zachery Cole Cumbie, Elijah Cumbie, Autumn Cumbie, J.J. Cumbie and Devin Dobbs; nine great-grandchildren, William Blake Taylor, Alfis “Lil Al” Brooks Powell, III, Helen Nicole Postulka, Kael Alexander Akhmedov, Olivia Faith Cumbie Moore, Eli Galloway, Owen Galloway, Hailey Deal, and James Deal. He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzette Juwan Cumbie and two brothers, George Cumbie and Bobby Cumbie. Funeral services with military honors, will be 3pm Monday at Fletcher Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Newton and Cary Hudson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
