Obituary of Douglas Curtis New, Sr.

Douglas “Doug” Curtis New, Sr., husband of 43 years to Patricia Heil New, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 21, 2021. Mr. New was born in Lithonia, GA to the late James Calvin New, Sr. and Myrtle Eugina Whitley New. Doug enjoyed fishing and watching The Young and The Restless. He was known for being able to fix anything mechanical. One of his fondness projects was building a trike with his son Doug, Jr. Doug put his family first and always looked forward to family gatherings. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Douglas New, Jr. and wife Melissa, and Dwayne Ivey; a daughter, Kathy McKittrick and husband Jeff; five brothers, David New, Donald New and wife Barbara, Leroy New and wife Mary, Calvin New, and Gerald New and wife Peggy; one sister, Dale New; three grandchildren, Jeff McKittrick, Jr., Dewayne McKittrick and Jamie New; two great-grandchildren, Jeff McKittrick III, and Haylee McKittrick. He was predeceased by three brothers, Roger Ivey, Cecil Ivey and Ray New; and a sister, Faye Ivey. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Chaplin Earl Simmons, Tracy and LaTosha from Wren Hospice, for the love and care given to Doug during his last days. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be 6 o’clock Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
