Obituary of Jimmie Curtis

Please share a memory of Jimmie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jimmie “Mr. Jim” Lowell Curtis, 82, husband of 62 years to Tommie Sue Dillard Curtis, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Mr. Curtis was born in Otto, NC to the late Charles Sutton Curtis, Sr. and Minnie Leona McCall Curtis. Jim was a Vietnam War Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked as a Meteorologist in Greenville-Spartanburg for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (N.O.A.A.) National Weather Service. He loved to play golf, he was a self-taught carpenter and mechanic, he enjoyed cheering on his NC Tarheels Basketball team and most importantly, he loved worshipping and fellowship at his home church, Cross Roads Baptist. To his family he was their “hero superman.” Jim was a giving Soul; he was helpful and always willing to lend an ear and offer great life advice. He was a supportive father who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and will be greatly missed. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Edward “Eddie” Curtis and wife Leslie; and a daughter, Dr. Melody Curtis and husband Greg Burns: a brother, Verlin Curtis: and three sisters, Barbara Bradley, Judy Carpenter, and Polly Lovell. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Curtis, Jr., Willie Curtis, and Claude Curtis; and three sisters, Elsie Brendle, Christine Brabson, Katherine Cunningham. A Celebration of Mr. Jim’s Life with military honors will be at 2 o’clock on Wednesday, May 5th at Cross Roads Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jack Eason and Rev. James Smith with music by Joey Estes. The family will receive friends the evening before from 6-8pm Tuesday, May 4th at Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Children’s Ministry (in honor of Mr. Jim), 705 Anderson Ridge Rd, Greer, SC 29651.
