I have only fond memories of Uncle Ray. He always expressed a genuine interest in our family and how the girls were doing. Ray had a mischievous smile and twinkling eyes with a kind and gentle spirit. I will always remember Ray and Betty’s hospitality when Henry and I were visiting in Colorado. They took us skiing at Loveland Pass after completely outfitting us in ski gear. Whew, I was terrible, but they were both so very patient. It took several falls in snow drifts to get me back down to the bottom. Henry proposed to me on that ski slope. We all had a great laugh looking for the ring Henry dropped in the snow.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in the tough days ahead. I look forward to our reunion with Ray someday. We love you dearly.

Uncle Ray is the best uncle ever! He was always fun and laughing. Unlike other adults, he took time to play with us whenever I visited. He picked me up after my scary bicycle wreck. He skated to my rescue when I had a violent fall at the skating rink. He made me feel safe, and I knew that Donna, Connie, and I were the most important people in the world to him during the weekends I got to spend the night in Greenville when I was growing up. I was a show-off and somewhat of a troublemaker, and sometimes he would try to be stern with me and Donna. But he was so sweet and loved us so much that he had great trouble being disciplinarian and I knew it, so I would laugh and then he would laugh. He made me try to be good by laughing with me, and that made me try to do better just because I recognized that he loved me so much. I aspire to spread as many smiles in the world as he did, but I doubt I will be able to. He was a master of smiles and the doctor of joy.
