Ruth Elizabeth Crawford Holliday, 92, widow of John Edward Holliday, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2022. Mrs. Holliday was born in Belton, SC to the late Joseph Clyde Crawford and Mabel McGaha Crawford. Ruth graduated from Greenville High at the age of 16. Before moving to the lake at Cross Hill, Ruth served as a Sunday school teacher, and volunteered in the GA’s, nursey and library at West Gant Baptist Church in Greenville. She retired early from Union Carbide to care for her parents, in-laws, and grandchildren. She was proud to be the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill. There she organized the Young at Heart and Friendship Book Club. Ruth was an avid reader and has read through the Bible 14 times. She was a prayer warrior and was known for her encouraging cards and letters. She was also known for her World-Famous Banana Pudding. Mostly, Ruth loved being “Mama Ruth” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Davis (Rick) and Jill H. Sprouse (Ronnie); a sister, Joan C. Turner; sister in-law, Linda Crawford; five grandchildren, Brian Sprouse (Rebecca), Kevin Chastain (Paige), Amanda Riddle, Darla Bryant (Ernie), and Bonnie Humphries (Charlie); and fifteen great-grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, “adopted” grands, and special friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Crawford. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be 1 o’clock Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Cross Hill. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
