Obituary of Betty Nell King Hughes

Betty Nell King Hughes, 93, widow of James Asbury “Jim” Hughes, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Mrs. Hughes was born in Simpsonville to the late Austin David King and Nell Jones King. She was a member of Clear Spring Baptist Church where she attended the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She retired from Her Majesty. Betty loved to cook, but her absolute blessing was being Ma Ma to her grandkids. Surviving are a son, Ronnie Hughes with wife Brenda; two daughters, Jennie McElveen with husband Joe, and Nancy Terry with husband Rodger “P.D.”; two sisters, Mary Ellen Henley and Mickey Davis; six grandchildren, Ashley Christopher with husband Kyle, Chris Hughes with wife Krystal, Josh Terry with fiancé Katie, Jennifer Foster with husband Brent, Tyler Terry, and Jay McElveen with wife Candace; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, Wilton King, Joyce King, Marion “Bud” King, and Lynn King; and a sister, Haven King. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Fletcher Funeral Service. A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be 4 o’clock Tuesday at Clear Spring Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Shiflet and Rev. Martin Atkins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
