We just learned of John’s passing and it sadden us. But….knowing John, you couldn’t stay sad for long. He had the sweetest, friendly smile I have ever seen. Just thinking of him makes one smile. I remember the last time I saw him. He and Mrs. Mary were in John’s truck. I heard a horn blowing, looked up and there was John grinning from ear to ear. Of course, Mrs. Mary had her sincerely sweet smile and twinkling blue eyes. They motioned for me to pull over so that we could catch up with our hugs and news. There are some folks who always have a special place in your heart……the Martin family is one of those! H.E. & Dollie Tuttle

I had the pleasure of working with Farmer John for the last 3 years of his service with Morgan Corp. He would show up to work with a box of chicken, a smile on his face and a positive attitude. I remember one day on a project in SC, I was setting stakes out for our pipe crew and told the operators not to hit them. I came back to set those stakes three additional times and told the scrapers to please stop running them over. Farmer John replied over the radio with “ well maybe if you would quit putting them in our way we would.” I never laughed so hard. He was a kind hearted hardworking man and will be missed.

I had some great times working with "Farmer" John. Spring of 2009, he arrived in Goose Creek, SC to help us with the clay. His self-introduction to me was "Hey! I'm Farmer John. I'll be here every day, and we can work as long or as little as you want, with one exception...If they start talking like a hurricane is coming in down here, you'll find me pulling a camper back towards Simpsonville...And I MIGHT stop in Columbia to pick up the landing gear! Then again, I might not." John was a real joy to work around. My condolences are with you all.

No one has ever made me laugh more, or harder, than "Farmer" John. He was one of the first friends I made when I came to work for Morgan in 2000, and stories about John are still the stuff legend 20 years later. I could tell stories about chicken wings, oysters, and John/Julius/Rudy for hours. He was a true friend, and he will be greatly missed.
