Obituary of John Martin

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Anderson Martin, 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Mr. Martin was born in Columbia, SC to the late Edward Luther Martin, Jr. and Mary Agnes Anderson Martin. He was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College and a lifelong farmer. John worked many years at Morgan Corp and was the former owner of John Martin Stables. He was a harness racing (horse) enthusiast and enjoyed old tractors and farm antiquities. John was a gifted story teller, never forgetting a joke that was shared with him. Surviving are a son, Jay Martin, Jr. with wife Sharon; a daughter, Brandi Riggins with husband Chris; and a sister, Mary Kay Crosby with husband Stan. A Celebration of John’s Life will be 12 noon Wednesday at Fairview Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Williams and Rev. Buddy Spivey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice of Spartanburg, 905 E Main Suite 2, Spartanburg, SC 29302. On behalf of our family, we would like to say a special thank you to Dorothy Coletta for all the care you have extended to the Martin family; and a thank you to dad’s caregivers – Krystal, Regina and Nesa – for helping us through his last days with us. We appreciate you all.
