Obituary of James "J.C." Sims, Jr.

Please share a memory of James "J.C." to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Cecil “J.C.” Sims, Jr., 79, husband of Ann Huckaby Sims for 59 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Mr. Sims was born in Fountain Inn to the late James Cecil Sims, Sr. and Mary Helen Allison Sims. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer. He retired as a Game Warden with the SC Department of Natural Resources with over 30 years of service and was a member of the SC Wildlife Officers Association. J.C. was proud of his work on the Mountain Bridge Project. He worked countless hours with other law enforcement officers planning the trails and byways. He was recognized for his work in protecting the upstate mountain trails at the Sassafras Tower completion. After retirement, he invested his time and energy into working his family farm. J.C. enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking; however, his greatest joy came in being PaPa to his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dry-wit, playful sarcasm, and wonderful sense-of-humor. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters and their husbands, Chris and Marty Richey, Ellen and Glenn Hawkins, and Melissa and Preston Layton; a sister, Ann Eppes with husband Richard; eight grandchildren, Hannah Rodgers with husband Aubrey, Jacob Hawkins, Kaitlin Guthrie with husband Hunter, Hunter Richey, Abby Hawkins, Matt Hawkins, Kalli Layton, and Eli Layton; and a great-granddaughter, Palmer. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Sims; a sister, Celia Rush; and his beloved dog “Pumpkin.” A Celebration of J.C.’s Life will be 5 o’clock Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Locust Hill Baptist Church HVAC Project, P.O.
