SSG James Larry Smith, US Army Retired, 70, husband of the late Mary Lou Hipps Smith, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2020.
SSG Smith was born in Fountain Inn to the late James Leroy Smith and Rosie Lee Cannady Smith. He retired from Fountain Inn Warehouse and Transfer. His time in the military included service in Vietnam and Iraq. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #19 (Laurens), HEJAZ Shrine Temple, the Laurens County Shrine Club, and American Legion Post #3.
Surviving are two sons, Tommy Smith and Mike Smith and wife Leslie; and three grandchildren, Knox Smith, Macy Smith, and Emma Smith. He was predeceased by a daughter, Angela Rene Smith; and a brother, Allen Smith.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Monday at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Steve Evans. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Cannon Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
The family is at the home of Mike and Leslie Smith, 638 Lee Vaughn Road in Simpsonville.
