Don was my math teacher at Scott High School in the early 1960s. He taught Business Math to the Business students and told me about Slippery Rock State College (later University). I remember he told me one summer he did painting and always seemed interested in home improvement projects. As a 17 year old, he seemed so "old" to me, but he was only in his 20s then. He helped me think about my future, and I eventually majored in Finance at college. A good, decent, man who was an excellent teacher. My thought and prayers go to his entire family. My thoughts, prayers and heart go to the family. I knew Mr. Showalter well as Sharon was a good friend of mine, and I knew him as a teacher at Coatesville Area Senior High School. I always enjoyed my talks with him. He was a man with great heart for humanity.

Earlier this year as part of a leadership development class I chose to highlight Don Showalter. Below is what I posted in September...
I chose to highlight Don Showalter. Don was not my immediate supervisor, but he had a significant impact in my early days at Pureflow. About six months in to my employment our service technician in Georgia left leaving me to handle the accounts in this territory. Don was only working part time in South Carolina at the time, but he stepped up to support/train me in this new role. Not only did he support my training of servicing accounts, but he also demonstrated a sincere desire to serve others. I learned (from others) that he not only had a servants heart at work, but he also did a tremendous amount for his local community and church. At the time Don was 74 years old, he had retired from his previous career, worked part time for Pureflow, cared for his wife at home, and still found time to serve others in his community/church. He would often use the money he earned at Pureflow to help neighbors with home repairs that they couldn't afford (he would purchase the materials and complete the repairs himself), and fund missionaries/birthday blessings to children all over. Don is now 82 years old and still has a genuine desire to serve others...he often states "he has to help the old people in his neighborhood". We still use him at Pureflow for shop projects, office maintenance and general cleanup for which he is extremely grateful...and we are as well. I greatly valued the time that I personally spent with Don early on and I'm grateful that my SC team has the opportunity to learn from him still today.
It was an honor to work with Don and call him my friend. Don was an amazing man and truly did live to serve others. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity I had to learn from Don, not just water treatment, but also life lessons along the way. He will be deeply missed.

I didn't know Don until I worked with him putting a roof on Jeff's pole barn in Moseley VA, so that is sheet metal on rafters, no safety net and no fall protection! Even though I gave him 10 years it was tough keeping up with him!
