Obituary of Donald Eugene Showalter

Donald “Don” Eugene Showalter, 82, husband of Virginia Dale Holladay Showalter for 59 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020. Mr. Showalter was born in Roaring Springs, PA to the late Harry Raymond Showalter and Elva Mildred Gahagan Showalter. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked for Pureflow, Inc. While in Pennsylvania, he was active in the church and helped develop and lead the handicapped ministry. In South Carolina, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as groundskeeper and volunteered with the handicap ministry. Don was a teacher, mentor, farmer, Boy Scout Leader, handyman, friend to everyone, and caretaker. In his earlier years he served as the director of school financing and taught math, science, surveying, and computer programming. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Tammy Showalter, and Gary and Fonda Showalter; three daughters, Terri Rager, Susan Showalter, and Kathy Kessler and husband Jeffrey; two sisters and their husbands, Bette and Sherm Croft, and Doris and Don Brumbaugh; eleven grandchildren, Christi Sprecher and husband Caleb, Laura Madson Showalter, Leanna Showalter, Charity Chaffee and husband Ethan, Ashlyn Showalter, Kaitlin Roughton and husband Derrick, Khindrid Aster Sol, Kimberly Kessler, Charissa Michel and husband Morgan, Kyleigh Kessler, Kennady Kessler, and Liam Dudley; and four great-grandchildren, Jayson Sprecher, Titus Chaffee, Bryson Sprecher, and Silas Chaffee. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Myer; a brother, Harold Showalter; and a grandson, Brandon Rager. A Celebration of Don’s Life, with Military Honors, will be held at 1:30 pm Monday at Faith Baptist Church Simpsonville, officiated by Rev. Greg Ince. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Simpsonville Building Fund, 906 Hwy 14, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
